Arena Troubleshooting: Something went wrong with this response... error message
Last updated: March 20, 2026
You may sometimes see the error message: “Something went wrong with this response, please try again.”

This is a general error message. It can happen for different reasons. You can think of it like a car’s “check engine” light. It tells you something went wrong, but not exactly what. This article explains a few quick things you can try to fix the issue. It also explains how to share helpful details with our team if the problem continues.
First, try these fixes:
If you see this error, please try the following steps:
Hard refresh the website
Clear your browser’s cookies and cache
Remove any browser extensions that may be effecting Arena
Set your system's date/time to the current date/time
Start a new chat
These steps often help, but they may not fix the issue every time.
Known Issues:
Each chat session supports up to 10 file uploads. Attempting to upload more than 10 files will result in an error.
A prompt can generate for up to 10 minutes. If it runs longer than that, it will result in an error.
Check if you're being rate limited:
If you see a “Something went wrong…” error and want to confirm whether it is rate limit-related, you can verify this on desktop by following these steps:
Open your browser’s Developer Tools.
Navigate to the Network tab.
Return to Arena and run a prompt that results in the error.
Go back to the Network tab and search for “Stream.”
Locate the request containing the Eval ID.
(this matches the random string of letters and numbers in the chat session’s URL)
Open the request and check the Status Code. If the Status Code is 429, the error is caused by a rate limit.
If the problem continues:
If you still see the error after trying the steps above, please fill out this form to include the error's Trace ID or name.
