Arena Troubleshooting: Session Token Limits

In some cases, a chat session may reach its token or context limit during a conversation. When this happens, you’ll see an error message that reads: “This session has reached its token usage limit.”

At that point, the session has hit its limit and can no longer be used.

What’s Happening

This behavior is expected when a model reaches the token or context limit for that specific chat session.

Recommended Steps

Creating a new chat session is currently the only way to move forward. Standard troubleshooting steps won’t resolve this error.

It’s also important to note that there isn’t a feature available to transfer context from one chat session to another.

Status

Our team is actively listening to community feedback around this limitation. Providing clearer visibility into how much context or token usage a chat has before reaching its limit is something we’re actively exploring. We’re also looking into features like context compaction and the ability to transfer session context to a new chat, as we understand how helpful those would be.
