Arena Troubleshooting: Infinite Generation
Last updated: March 23, 2026
In some cases, a model response may enter an infinite generation state. When this happens, the model continues generating output without completing the response, sometimes for an extended or indefinite period of time. After a short while, it becomes clear that the generation is unlikely to finish on its own.
What’s Happening
This behavior is caused by a known bug that can occasionally affect model responses. While the model is still technically running, it is no longer making meaningful progress toward completing the output.
Recommended Steps
There are limited actions available to interrupt an infinite generation, but the following steps may help resolve the issue:
Use the Stop Button to cancel the generation. Learn more about the Stop Button here.
Hard refresh the page.
Clear the site’s cache.
Try a different web browser.
Try logging out and then logging back in.
Wait briefly; the generation may eventually complete on its own.
If none of the above steps work, the best option may be to start a new chat. Please note that doing so will reset the conversation and any prior context will be lost.
